Snetterton flat out ....The Thunderbike uk circus moved to the Norfolk high speed circuit.

The rain promised on every news website we read arrived, but instead of being all day on and off, it came in one ten minute burst and the deluge filled every drain / tent/ and orrifice. Fun for us as we were not out until later but the sidecars will now be fitted with windscreen wipers!

Everyone expected the Mighty Moto Guzzi of Gyles Fairclough to pick up its game here and for the CBR600's to stretch their legs. No one was surprised to see them all move on to better placings than the last meeting at Cadwell, but Simon Peyto was keeping them all honest.

Race 1. Read (Alto - Vyrus) and Gyles were left at the back of the grid in race 1 when they should have been up the front. A small mistake not getting to the grid on time cost both of them a front row start but made the spectators happy as they battled towards the front again TO 5th and 4th respectively, good ride chaps.

Simon Peyto made the most of it with Garry Budgen and Dan Wright making the first 3 home.

Moto Guzzi, Yamaha, Ducati, Vyrus, Suzuki, where else can you see 5 makes of bike in one shot.

Race 2 and the Guzzi hit the front whilst the Vyrus and Read in 3rd at the time explored the scenery. Gyles took win number1, Peyto and Budgen making the top 3. Rob Bean had another DNF with a poorly engine and was out for the rest of the meeting. He will be back soon we are sure. A good competitor on an imaculate green machine, look out for him.

Gyles Fairclough ( Guzzi MGS 01) leads Simon Peyto who is rapidly building points with his fast Suzuki.

Sunday race 1 and everyone who could run was out. Off they went from the line with Peyto, Fairclogh, Budgen and Wright pushing hard. Read was coming from the back again (remember a DNF puts you on the back of the grid), he ended 5th. Gyles made the Guzzi work for him, but Simon and Garry didn't let him have it easy right up to the chequered flag.

Race 2 All weekend the clash of 5 riders had been expected, but just somehow never happened. Now they were all on the front 2 rows and the track was wet in places so everyone was on wet tyres. Gyles and Simon flew of the line with Garry, Dan and Read chasing. Within 3 laps The Guzzi and SV of Peyto had gone missing. "..and there was Simon on his side, right in front of me...I couldn't avoid going down" Gyles later exclaimed fortunately both were unhurt, simon remounted to finish 8th (all points). Garry 1st made the most and gapped Read (2nd) and Wright (3rd). Thats how they stayed to the chequered flag. Special mention to Simon Baggett who finshed 4th. He is coming guys.

Gyles and the Guzzi will be parted for a couple of meetings whilst his wife has a baby...best wishes from all at Thunderbike UK. The Guzzi will still be a Cadwell though with the ever improving Simon Baggett riding as caretaker.

The championship now moves back to Cadwell Park. Simon Peyto will want a clean sweep, Garry Budgen and Phil Read need to make points if they are to move up to the next positions in the championship. They all know time is running out to make points up, it will be serious faces all weekend we suspect. Come and watch them battle....

2006 saw the introduction of the exciting Thunderbike series to the UK. Run by the BEMSEE Organization the series has proved to be extremely popular amongst competitors and spectators alike. Based on the successful Formula USA Thunderbike rules, this class sees Buells and other air cooled 2 valve twins such as Guzzis, Ducati 900ss etc competing with the likes of the suzuki SV650 and even some 4 cylinder bikes on a level playing field, and will creating very close and exciting racing.

The "official Dyna Pro" test dyno. At most meetings they can run and test bikes for ANY competitor. For the Thunderbike UK series they are the definitive measurment...power to weight.

The class has specific displacement rules for different engine configurations, as well as a power/weight ratio restriction of 1bhp:4lbs. This means that if you want to campaign a 100bhp bike then it would have to weigh 400lbs. This keeps the class affordable for everyone and means that a 72bhp SV650 will be competitive with a 100bhp Ducati 1000DS.
